Syncope

Syncope refers to a transient loss of consciousness caused by temporary cerebral hypoperfusion due to various reasons. Patients may first experience dizziness, lightheadedness, blurred vision or blackouts, and limb weakness, followed by loss of consciousness and falling to the ground. They typically recover within seconds to minutes, able to stand and walk, though some may experience general weakness for up to half an hour. Syncope is usually caused by cerebral hypoperfusion resulting from various heart and brain diseases, but can also be caused by other diseases and factors.
