Intraductal papilloma of breast

The female breast has 15 to 20 lactiferous ducts, which open at the nipple. Intraductal papilloma of the breast is a benign tumor originating from the ductal epithelium. It is a common benign breast tumor in women and has a certain rate of malignant transformation. This disease can be divided into two types: Central intraductal papilloma (solitary): This is more common clinically. It frequently occurs in multiparous women, especially those aged 40 to 50. It originates from the large ducts, usually located subareolarly, and does not involve the terminal ductal-lobular unit. Peripheral intraductal papilloma (multiple): This originates from the terminal ductal-lobular unit. This disease generally has no subjective symptoms. It is often noticed due to nipple discharge staining underwear, which can be bloody, dark brown, or yellow.
