Detailed description
Premature ejaculation (PE) is characterized by uncontrolled ejaculation before or shortly after vaginal penetration.
The International Society for Sexual Medicine defines PE based on the following four criteria, which apply only to vaginal intercourse and not to other forms of sexual activity:
Ejaculation consistently or almost always occurs before or within approximately 1 minute of vaginal penetration from the first sexual experience (lifelong PE).
Or a clinically significant reduction in intravaginal ejaculatory latency time, typically to less than 3 minutes (acquired PE).
The individual is consistently or almost always unable to control or delay ejaculation.
Negative personal consequences, such as distress, bother, frustration, or the avoidance of sexual intimacy.
