Budd-Chiari syndrome

Budd-Chiari syndrome, also known as Budd-Chiari disease, refers to a group of diseases characterized primarily by portal hypertension or combined portal and inferior vena cava hypertension, caused by obstruction of the hepatic veins or the inferior vena cava above their opening. The main symptoms include ascites, bilateral lower extremity edema, hepatosplenomegaly, abdominal wall varices, and lower extremity ulcers.
