Hypersplenism

Hypersplenism is a syndrome characterized by splenomegaly, a reduction in one or more types of blood cells with corresponding hyperplasia of bone marrow hematopoietic cells, and symptom relief after splenectomy. It can be divided into two types: Primary hypersplenism: Also known as idiopathic hypersplenism, it is relatively rare. The cause is unknown. Secondary hypersplenism: Refers to hypersplenism that occurs as a complication of various underlying primary diseases. This condition usually has no symptoms. When the spleen is significantly enlarged, abdominal distension and a rubbing sensation under the left ribs may be felt. There is a tendency for anemia, infection, and bleeding.
