Enteric fistula

An intestinal fistula is an abnormal connection between the intestine and another organ, the abdominal cavity, or the body surface. The former is called an internal intestinal fistula, and the latter is an external intestinal fistula. Generally, after an intestinal fistula occurs, intestinal contents leak out of the intestinal lumen, which can lead to infection, fluid loss, malnutrition, and organ dysfunction.
