Hernia of the linea alba

A linea alba hernia is an abdominal hernia that occurs in the midline of the abdominal wall (i.e., the linea alba). The vast majority occur in the upper abdomen, hence it is also known as an epigastric hernia. This condition is more common in middle-aged and elderly individuals, with a higher incidence in males than females. Typically, a linea alba hernia presents with no significant symptoms other than a mass, and it can sometimes be misdiagnosed as an abdominal wall lipoma. Surgery is the only effective method to cure a linea alba hernia.
