Peritoneal mesothelioma

Peritoneal mesothelioma is a rare tumor originating from the mesothelial and submesothelial cells of the peritoneum. Peritoneal mesothelioma can be grossly divided into two types: diffuse and localized. The diffuse type is the most common and is usually malignant, while the localized type is rare and can be either benign or malignant. Epidemiological studies show that peritoneal mesothelioma is more common in men aged 40-60 years (male to female ratio is approximately 2:1). The annual incidence of this disease is about 1-2 per million, and it has been increasing in recent years.
