Pelvic inflammatory disease

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an infection of the female reproductive organs, including the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries, or surrounding organs, caused by bacteria ascending from the vagina through the cervix. It is a common disease among women. PID predominantly affects sexually active young and middle-aged women. Key symptoms include lower abdominal pain, a sensation of heaviness in the pelvis, abnormal vaginal discharge, vaginal bleeding, and fever.
