Congenital absence of uterus

Congenital absence of the uterus, also known as congenital uterine agenesis, is a condition caused by certain factors affecting the normal formation and differentiation of the uterus during the fetal period. Congenital absence of the uterus often does not occur in isolation but can be a manifestation of certain syndromes. The most common features include vaginal agenesis and an undeveloped uterus, while the fallopian tubes, ovaries, and overall development are normal. Less common conditions include testicular feminization syndrome, androgen insensitivity syndrome, true hermaphroditism, and gonadal dysgenesis. Congenital absence of the uterus is a relatively common anomaly of the female reproductive system, with an incidence reported abroad to be approximately 1/5,000 to 1/4,000.
