Neonatal sepsis

Neonatal sepsis is a severe systemic disease in newborns caused by infection. A characteristic feature of sepsis is the identification of pathogens through blood culture. During the onset, pathogens multiply within the infant's body, spreading through the bloodstream to various organs, leading to organ dysfunction. The clinical manifestations of neonatal sepsis are diverse, making early diagnosis difficult and prone to misdiagnosis. Generally, the younger the gestational age and the lower the birth weight, the higher the incidence and mortality rates.
