In China, the diagnostic criterion for neonatal hypoglycemia is blood glucose <2.2 mmol/L (40 mg/dL). To prevent brain damage, neonatal blood glucose <2.6 mmol/L (47 mg/dL) must be intervened, regardless of gestational age and birth weight.
Neonatal hypoglycemia is a common condition. The incidence of hypoglycemia in healthy full-term infants is 1%-5%, while in premature and small-for-gestational-age infants, it is 15%-25%.
