Macrosomia

Macrosomia, also known as a large-for-gestational-age fetus, refers to a fetus with a birth weight of ≥4000g. Macrosomia not only increases the difficulty of vaginal delivery, leading to various complications for the mother such as postpartum hemorrhage, infection, and perineal lacerations, but also causes injuries to the infant during delivery. According to current data, macrosomia accounts for 7% of all newborns in China, meaning that approximately 7 out of every 100 newborns weigh over 4000g. The incidence rate is even higher in other countries, at about 15.1%, and male fetuses are more commonly affected than female fetuses.
