Amniotic fluid aspiration, also known as amniotic fluid aspiration syndrome, refers to the aspiration of a large amount of unpolluted amniotic fluid through the mouth and nose by the fetus due to fetal respiratory distress caused by insufficient oxygen in the uterus or during birth. It mainly occurs in newborns shortly after birth, presenting with symptoms such as respiratory distress, dyspnea, cyanosis, frothing at the mouth, and a weak cry.
