Neonatal facial nerve palsy is a facial muscle paralysis caused by damage to the facial nerve. Manifestations include inability to close the eyes, frown, puff out the cheeks, bare the teeth, and close the mouth, as well as deviation of the corner of the mouth to the opposite side and shallowing of the nasolabial fold. It can affect one or both sides of the face.
