Neonatal Chlamydial Infection

Neonatal chlamydial infection refers to a disease caused by Chlamydia trachomatis infection in newborns, mostly acquired during delivery from the mother's birth canal. Neonatal chlamydial infection primarily manifests as conjunctivitis and pneumonia. Conjunctivitis generally responds well to treatment, with a very small number of infants potentially developing blindness as a sequela, though this is extremely rare. If pneumonia is treated promptly, it can be completely cured. However, if severe hypoxemia or respiratory failure has already occurred, the treatment outcome is poor, and it may lead to death.
