Newborn hearing screening

Newborn hearing screening is one of the newborn screening programs mandated by the Ministry of Health. It uses objective, simple, and rapid methods to screen for newborns who may have hearing impairments, and to further diagnose and follow up on them. In 2004, the Ministry of Health issued the "Regulations on Universal Newborn Screening," which requires newborns to undergo an initial hearing screening within 48 hours of birth. If the initial screening is not passed, a rescreening should be performed within 30-42 days. If the rescreening is still not passed, it is recommended to go to a nationally designated hearing diagnostic center for a hearing diagnosis to determine the cause, degree, and type of the child's hearing loss, and to provide early intervention.
