Atrial septal defect in children

Pediatric atrial septal defect refers to a condition where a portion of the atrial septum between the right and left atria fails to close during fetal development, forming a defect. It is one of the most common types of congenital heart disease. Pediatric atrial septal defect accounts for approximately 10% of all congenital heart diseases, ranking second in incidence among pediatric congenital heart diseases.
