A thyroglossal duct cyst is a congenital cyst formed in the neck due to incomplete regression or persistence of the thyroglossal duct during early embryonic thyroid development. It is common in children and adolescents, often presenting as a midline neck mass at the level of the thyrohyoid membrane, close to the hyoid bone.
