Congenital megacolon

Congenital megacolon, also known as Hirschsprung's disease, is a common congenital intestinal motility disorder with an incidence of approximately 1/5000, affecting more male infants than female infants. Due to the lack of nerve cells controlling the distal colorectum, normal peristalsis and defecation are impaired, leading to constipation, obstruction, and abdominal distension in infants and young children. As feces accumulate in the intestines, it can cause severe harm to the infant's body, leading to severe infections or malnutrition.
