Omphalitis

Omphalitis is an acute inflammation of the umbilicus caused by bacterial invasion and proliferation. It is commonly seen in neonates, while adult cases are relatively rare. The main symptoms of omphalitis include redness, swelling, induration, and pain in the umbilical area, accompanied by purulent discharge. As the condition progresses, symptoms can become more severe, and the affected area may spread deeper and peripherally. Neonatal omphalitis, in particular, can be life-threatening if not promptly and effectively managed.
