Cavernous transformation of the portal vein in children

Pediatric cavernous transformation of the portal vein (CTPV) refers to the formation of numerous collateral veins or recanalization around the main portal vein and/or its branches after complete or partial obstruction. This is a compensatory change in the body to ensure adequate hepatic blood flow and normal liver function. The main symptoms include hypersplenism and upper gastrointestinal bleeding.
