Congenital anal atresia

Congenital anal atresia is a congenital anorectal disease in which the rectum and anus are completely closed in newborns, preventing the passage of stool. Its main features include the absence of meconium after birth, followed by abdominal distension and vomiting. Once diagnosed, immediate surgical treatment is often required. This disease is a congenital anorectal malformation, more common in males than females, and some cases show a familial predisposition.
