Congenital intestinal malrotation

Congenital intestinal malrotation is a condition caused by abnormal intestinal rotation during embryonic development, leading to an altered position of the intestines. This can result in intestinal obstruction (where substances cannot pass normally through the intestines) or volvulus (twisting of the intestines). Symptoms typically appear during the neonatal and infancy periods, with a male-to-female ratio of approximately 2:1. The main symptoms include normal meconium passage after birth, followed by intermittent vomiting 3 to 5 days postpartum. The vomitus contains bile and appears yellowish-green. In cases of volvulus, sudden onset symptoms include paroxysmal abdominal pain and frequent vomiting.
