Piriformis syndrome

Piriformis syndrome is a set of symptoms caused by the piriformis muscle in the buttocks compressing the underlying sciatic nerve. However, due to the lack of objective evidence and reliable assessment methods, this diagnosis remains controversial. This condition is common in people with a history of buttock trauma or prolonged sitting, and it is more prevalent in women than in men. The main symptoms include pain in the affected buttock and radiating pain down the leg.
