Tibial plateau fracture

The knee joint is formed by the upper end of the tibia and the lower end of the femur. The surface where the tibia contacts the lower end of the femur is the tibial plateau. A tibial plateau fracture is a fracture that occurs at this location and is considered an intra-articular fracture. The tibial plateau is an important weight-bearing structure of the knee joint. Once a fracture occurs, it causes uneven stress on the medial and lateral plateaus, leading to osteoarthritic changes. Due to the presence of medial and lateral collateral ligaments on the medial and lateral sides of the tibial plateau, respectively, and the tibial tuberosity in the center with cruciate ligament attachments, ligament and meniscal injuries often occur when the tibial plateau fractures.
