Lumbar transverse process syndrome

Lumbar transverse process syndrome is a condition caused by external forces damaging the tips of the lumbar transverse processes, leading to aseptic inflammation, adhesion, degeneration, and thickening of the attached muscles and fascia. This irritates the lumbar spinal nerves, resulting in pain in the lower back and buttocks, and significant tenderness at the transverse process. Because the third lumbar vertebra is the center of lumbar activity and has the longest transverse processes, its tips are most susceptible to damage from external forces. Therefore, this condition typically occurs at the transverse process of the third lumbar vertebra. This condition is common in individuals with a slender build and young to middle-aged manual laborers. The main symptoms include pain in the lower back and buttocks, and significant tenderness at the transverse process.
