Motor neuron disease

Motor neuron disease is a group of chronic, progressive neurodegenerative diseases of unknown etiology that selectively affect anterior horn cells of the spinal cord, brainstem motor neurons, cortical pyramidal cells, and pyramidal tracts. It generally occurs in middle age, with a higher incidence in males than females. Common symptoms include muscle weakness, muscle atrophy, muscle cramps, dysphagia, choking, and slurred speech.
