Macular degeneration refers to a disease in which the macula atrophies or undergoes metabolic abnormalities due to various factors such as age, genetics, and unfavorable environmental conditions. The main manifestations of macular degeneration include a decrease in central vision in one or both eyes, distorted vision, and other symptoms that gradually worsen. In severe cases, patients may lose daytime vision, color perception, or even become blind.
