Detailed description
Myopia refers to a refractive state where parallel light rays, when the eye is at rest, are refracted by the eye's optical system and focus in front of the retina. Childhood myopia refers to myopia that develops during childhood, characterized by accommodative abnormalities, progression, and susceptibility to multiple influencing factors.
It can be divided into two types: pseudomyopia and true myopia.
Pseudomyopia: Due to excessive eye fatigue, the ciliary muscle becomes overly tense, leading to a decrease in uncorrected visual acuity. However, after an eye exam, there is no myopia.
True myopia: Myopia persists even after cycloplegic refraction.
It is common in children whose parents both have high myopia.
In mild or moderate myopia, there are no symptoms other than blurred distant vision. In high myopia, the eyeballs may be slightly prominent.
