Iris coloboma is the most common congenital anomaly of the iris, mostly caused by incomplete closure of the embryonic fissure during the embryonic period. The defect is usually located below the pupil and connected to the pupillary margin, appearing as an inverted "pear" shape with the tip pointing downwards.
