Congenital anomalies of the uvea

The eyeball wall is divided into many layers, and the uvea is located in the middle layer of the eyeball wall, between the white part of the eye (sclera) and the inner layer of the eyeball wall. The uvea has three important components: the iris, the ciliary body, and the choroid. Congenital anomalies of the uvea are mostly related to incomplete closure of the embryonic fissure during the early development of the embryonic eye. Common congenital anomalies of the uvea include: congenital aniridia, iris coloboma, persistent pupillary membrane, and choroidal coloboma.
