Optic nerve avulsion

Optic nerve avulsion is the result of various causes leading to strong, acute traction on the optic nerve, causing the intraocular segment of the optic nerve, along with the scleral lamina cribrosa, to detach from the scleral canal. Clinically, it is classified into partial avulsion and complete avulsion based on the degree of injury. Typically, immediate blindness occurs after avulsion. In cases of partial avulsion, some vision may be retained.
