Bacterial conjunctivitis is a common infectious eye disease characterized by purulent inflammation of the conjunctiva caused by bacterial infection. It can affect people of all ages, but is more common in children. Symptoms primarily include red eyes, increased discharge, foreign body sensation, photophobia, tearing, and eyelid edema.
