Periodontal disease

Periodontal disease refers to diseases affecting the supporting tissues of the teeth (periodontium), including gingivitis, which only affects the gingival tissue, and periodontitis, which involves the deeper periodontal tissues (periodontal ligament, alveolar bone, cementum). Periodontal disease is a common oral disease and one of the main causes of tooth loss in adults. It is also a major oral disease that endangers human teeth and overall health.
