Ankyloglossia, or tongue-tie, refers to a condition where the lingual frenulum does not recede to the base of the tongue after birth, preventing the tongue from extending out of the mouth and the tip from lifting upwards.
Symptoms of ankyloglossia include difficulty sucking, slow weight gain, and a "W"-shaped tongue tip when extended.
