Pericoronitis, also known as third molar pericoronitis, is an inflammation of the soft tissues surrounding an erupting or impacted wisdom tooth (third molar). It is often caused by incomplete eruption or impaction of the wisdom tooth. Clinically, mandibular wisdom tooth pericoronitis is more common. The main symptom is pain.
