Temporomandibular joint dislocation

Temporomandibular joint dislocation, commonly known as "dislocated jaw," refers to the complete separation of the condyle (the main growth center of the mandible) from the articular fossa, articular tubercle, or articular disc during wide opening of the mouth, making it unable to return to its normal position spontaneously. It can occur unilaterally or bilaterally, with acute anterior dislocation being the most common. It is more prevalent in females and presents with an open mouth, inability to close it, and drooling.
