Keratocystic odontogenic tumor

Keratocyst, also known as odontogenic keratocyst, was renamed keratocystic odontogenic tumor in 2005. It is a benign cystic tumor originating from the primitive dental germ or dental lamina. It can occur in any part of the jawbone, with a predilection for the mandibular third molar region and the mandibular ramus (a vertical bone below the earlobe). This disease is most common in individuals aged 10-29, with a second peak incidence between 40 and 50 years old. The tumor grows slowly and initially presents with no subjective symptoms. As it continues to grow, a mass may protrude towards the buccal or lingual side.
