Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease

Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), also known as hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy, is a group of inherited peripheral neuropathies. Patients experience progressive muscle weakness and atrophy, as well as sensory loss, in the distal extremities due to affected motor and/or sensory peripheral nerves. CMT typically manifests before the age of 20, progresses slowly, and may severely impair mobility in later stages, but rarely leads to complete disability or affects normal lifespan.
