Atrophic rhinitis is a nasal inflammation primarily characterized by atrophy of the nasal mucosa, and the underlying turbinates and nasal bones. In mild cases, only the nasal mucosa atrophies; in more severe cases, both the nasal mucosa and the underlying turbinates and nasal bones atrophy.
This disease is common in young and middle-aged adults, with a higher incidence in females than males.
The main symptoms are nasal obstruction and nasal dryness.
