Detailed description
Neurodermatitis is a skin condition characterized by localized, intense itching. Patients, unable to tolerate the itching, continuously scratch, which in turn exacerbates the itch, creating a vicious cycle.
The onset of this condition may be associated with neuropsychiatric factors, diet, local irritation, gastrointestinal dysfunction, endocrine disorders, and other factors.
Typical skin lesions are lichenified. Due to severe itching and repeated scratching, the affected skin thickens and may present with blood crusts and hyperpigmentation. The itching is very persistent, can recur repeatedly, and may lead to infection and scarring.
