Pigmented purpura

Pigmented purpuric dermatosis, also known as pigmented purpura, is a group of chronic purpuric skin diseases of unknown etiology, caused by extravasation of red blood cells due to mild inflammation and capillary hemorrhage, and is not related to coagulation dysfunction. The purpura often symmetrically distributes on both lower extremities, presenting as non-blanching purplish-red, rust-colored, or brownish-yellow petechiae and ecchymoses. Most patients are asymptomatic, while a few experience varying degrees of pruritus.
