Senile plaques

Senile plaques, also known as seborrheic keratoses, are benign intraepidermal tumors caused by delayed maturation of keratinocytes (a type of cell that makes up the skin). They are not related to sebum. This condition is common in the elderly but can also be seen in young people. It generally occurs after the age of 30-40. It is more common in men after the age of 40 and in women after the age of 60. The main symptom is the appearance of brown patches or plaques on the local skin of elderly people. The lesions often appear on the face, scalp, forearms, and back of the hands, but can also occur in other areas.
