Pubic lice

Phthiriasis, also known as pubic lice infestation, is a contagious skin disease caused by pubic lice biting the skin. These lice parasitize the hair around the human external genitalia and anus, leading to itching. It is common for couples to be affected simultaneously. Pubic lice are different from head lice; they are another type of louse, measuring about 1-3 millimeters in length. Their bodies are flat, and under a magnifying glass, they resemble crabs, hence they are also called crab lice. Pubic lice typically live around the pubic hair and lay their eggs there. In some patients, pubic lice can also be found on eyebrows and armpit hair. Pubic lice feed on blood, and their bites on the genitals can cause severe itching, affecting the patient's normal life.
