Detailed description
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a relatively common mental illness characterized by recurrent obsessions, compulsions, or compulsive behaviors. Most patients perceive these thoughts and behaviors as unnecessary or abnormal and against their will, yet they are unable to get rid of them, leading to significant anxiety and distress. The onset typically occurs during adolescence, though some cases may begin in childhood. The prevalence is higher in females than in males.
