Tobacco dependence refers to a strong craving or urge to smoke, difficulty controlling the initiation, termination, and dosage of smoking, and the appearance of physiological withdrawal symptoms when smoking is stopped or reduced, manifesting as irritability, anxiety, headache, dry mouth, and difficulty concentrating. This condition is more common in smokers who started smoking at a younger age, smoke a large number of cigarettes daily, and have been smoking for a long time.
