Anorexia nervosa

Anorexia nervosa, commonly known as anorexia, is an eating disorder that typically develops during adolescence and is more prevalent in females. Individuals with anorexia nervosa have an intense fear of gaining weight and becoming fat. They severely restrict their food intake, leading to an abnormally low body weight. They often experience malnutrition, metabolic and endocrine disturbances, such as amenorrhea in females. In severe cases, extreme malnutrition can lead to cachexia, organ failure, and ultimately become life-threatening.
