Lateral femoral cutaneous neuropathy

Meralgia paresthetica, also known as Bernhardt-Roth syndrome or lateral femoral cutaneous neuropathy, is a common peripheral neuropathy characterized by damage to the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve due to various causes. It results in sensory abnormalities in the anterior-lateral two-thirds of the thigh, such as numbness, pain, burning sensation, or a crawling sensation. It occurs in approximately 7% to 35% of patients with leg discomfort. Most patients experience unilateral symptoms, with only 8% to 12% having bilateral symptoms. It can occur at any age but is more common in individuals aged 30 to 40 years.
