Carotid steal syndrome

Carotid steal syndrome refers to a phenomenon where, when one internal carotid artery is occluded, the other internal carotid artery compensates by supplying blood to the affected side through the anterior or posterior communicating artery, leading to insufficient blood supply on the normal side. It is generally divided into two types: carotid-carotid steal and carotid-vertebrobasilar steal. Symptoms may include dizziness, hemiparesis, and paresthesia.
